List of Sports in Chinese with Pictures

Do you know your sports in Chinese? There’re many types of sports in the world. Which ones do you enjoy? 1. Basketball

We can say “篮球 (lánqiú)” in Chinese. Basketball is a limited-contact sport played on a rectangular court, played as a team sport with five players on each side.

Examples:

每个周末我都会跟朋友去打蓝球。

Měi gè zhōumò wǒ dūhuì gēn péngyou qù dǎ lánqiú.

I play basketball with my friends every weekend.

 

2. Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two opposing teams who take turns batting and fielding. You can say “棒球 (bàngqiú).”

Examples:

棒球打得很好。

bàngqiú dǎ de hěn hǎo.

He plays baseball very well.

3. Archery

Archery is the art, sport, practice or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. We can use “射箭 (shèjiàn)” for archery in the Chinese language!

Examples:

我在周末练习射箭。

Wǒ zài zhōumò liànxí shèjiàn.

I practice archery on weekends.

4. Swimming

Swimming is the self-propulsion of a person through fresh or salt water, usually for recreation, sport, exercise, or survival. Swimming in Chinese is “游泳 (yóuyǒng).”

Examples:

天气很热,我们去游泳吧!

Tiānqì hěn rè, wǒmen qù yóuyǒng ba!

It’s so hot, let’s go swimming.

5. Cycling

We can say “自行车 (zìxíngchē).” Cycling is the sport or activity of riding a bicycle.

Examples:

我骑自行车去工作。

Wǒ qí zìxíngchē qù gōngzuò.

I ride a bicycle to work.

6. Boxing

We can use “拳击 (quánjī)” for the word “boxing.” It is the sport or practice of fighting with padded gloves in a roped square ring according to prescribed rules.

Examples:

我报名参加了拳击班。

Wǒ bàomíng cānjiāle quánjí bān.

I signed up for a boxing class.

7. Football

“足球 (zúqiú)” means “football.” It is the team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball with a foot to score a goal.

Examples:

我爱看足球。

Wǒ ài kàn zúqiú.

I love to watch football.

8. Hockey

Hockey is a sport in which two teams play against each other by trying to maneuver a ball or a puck into the opponent’s goal using a hockey stick. You can learn the Chinese word “曲棍球 (qūgùnqiú)” for “hockey.”

Examples:

曲棍球在中国不是很流行。

Qūgùnqiú zài zhōngguó bùshì hěn liúxíng.

Hockey is not very popular in China.

9. Table Tennis

Table tennis, also known as ping-pong, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball back and forth across a table using small bats. We can say “乒乓球 (pīngpāngqiú)” in Chinese.

Examples:

他爱好打乒乓球。

Tā àihào dǎ pīngpāng qiú.

He is interested in playing table tennis.

10. Judo

The Chinese word “柔道 (róudào)” is the meaning of “judo.”  It was created as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy in Japan, in 1882.

Examples:

女子柔道何时被奥运会接受?

Nǚzǐ róudào hé shí bèi àoyùnhuì jiēshòu?

When will women’s judo be accepted by the Olympic Games?

11. Canoe / Kayaking

Canoe in Chinese is “皮划艇 (píhuátǐng).” It a light, narrow boat with pointed ends and no keel, propelled with a paddle or paddles.

Examples:

我在考虑也许我们可以去皮划艇

Wǒ zài kǎolǜ yěxǔ wǒmen kěyǐ qù píhuátǐng.

I am thinking maybe we can go canoeing.

12. Tennis

Tennis is a game in which two or four players strike a ball with rackets over a net stretched across a court. We can say “网球 (wǎngqiú)” in Chinese!

Examples:

他的网球打得好。

Tā de wǎngqiú dǎ dé hǎo.

He shines at tennis.

13. Volleyball

“排球 (páiqiú)” means the sports name “volleyball.” Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net.

Examples:

排球是我很喜欢的运动。

Páiqiú shì wǒ hěn xǐhuān de yùndòng.

Volleyball is my favorite sport.

14. Diving

Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard. Diving can be called “跳水 (tiàoshuǐ)” in Chinese.

Examples:

她在花式跳水中得了最高分。

Tā zài huā shì tiàoshuǐ zhōng déliǎo zuìgāo fēn.

She got the highest score in fancy diving.

15. Trampoline

Trampoline is used as a springboard and landing area in doing acrobatic or gymnastic exercises. You can say “蹦床 (bèngchuáng)” for “Trampoline” in Chinese language.

Examples: 

孩子们在蹦床上欢跳。

Háizimen zài bèngchuáng shàng huān tiào.

Kids were jumping on the trampoline.

16. Skiing

The Chinese word for “skiing” is “滑雪 (huáxuě).” Skiing is the action of traveling over snow on skis, especially a recreational activity or a competitive winter sport.

Examples:

我的家人每年冬天去滑雪。

Wǒ de jiārén měinián dōngtiān qù huáxuě.

My family goes skiing every winter.

17. Surfing

Surfing is the sport or pastime of riding a wave towards the shore while standing or lying on a surfboard. Surfing in Chinese is “冲浪 (chōnglàng).”

Examples:

她花实在太多的时间在网上冲浪。

Tā huā shízài tài duō de shíjiān zài wǎngshàng chōnglàng.

She spends way too much time surfing the web.

18. Golf

Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls. We can say “高尔夫 (gāo’ěrfū)” in Chinese.

Examples:

我想打高尔夫。

Wǒ xiǎng dǎ gāo’ěrfū.

I want to play golf.

19. Fishing

Fishing is the activity of catching fish, either for food or as a sport. Fishing in Chinese is “钓鱼 (diào yú).”

Examples:

我跟他去钓鱼。

Wǒ gēn tā qù diàoyú.

I’m going fishing with him.

20. Bowling

Bowling is a sport or leisure activity in which a player rolls or throws a bowling ball towards a target. In Chinese, we can call “保龄球 (bǎolíngqiú)” for “bowling.”

Examples: 

你要不要和我们一起去打保龄球?

Nǐ yào bùyào hé wǒmen yīqǐ qù dǎ bǎolíngqiú?

Do you want to go bowling with us?
