1. 我爱妳 (wǒ ài nǎi)

我爱妳 (wǒ ài nǎi) is the most common way to say I love you in Chinese. In traditional Chinese, 愛 could be translated into three parts. The upper part, 爫 represents the hand. The middle part, 冖 is like a cap, a cover upon the heart 心. The last part, 夊 refers to feet. In combination, it means putting one’s heart inside a box or wrapped in a beautiful scarf and carried it with care and love.

Lǎopó, shēngrì kuàilè! Zhè shì nǐ zhīqián shuō hěn xiǎng yào de bāo bāo
老婆,生日快乐! 这是你之前说很想要的包包
Darling, happy birthday! This is the bag that you’ve been talking about for ages.

Lǎogōng, wǒ ài nǐ
老公,我爱你
Darling, I love you.

Wǒ yě ài nǎi
我也爱妳
I love you too!

2. 我喜欢你 (wǒ xǐhuan nǐ)

我喜欢你 (wǒ xǐhuan nǐ) means I like you. It’s more a shy way to say I love you. When you’re trying to tell people about how you feel about them, it’s the perfect phrase.

Xiǎo’ān, wǒ yǒuxiē huà xiǎng gēn nǐ shuō
小安,我有些话想跟你说
Anne, I have something to tell you.

Qíshí, wǒ xǐhuan nǎi hěnjiǔle
其实,我喜欢妳很久了
To be honest, I have feelings for you for a long time.

3. 一见钟情 (yījiàn zhōngqíng)

一见钟情 (yījiàn zhōngqíng) means “love at first sight”. You could use it when you know they’re the one right after you met them.

4. 啾咪 (jiū mī)

啾咪 (jiū mī) is a slang which refers to chu, a blow kiss. It’s also a way to act cute when you need a favor or to show your gratitude.

你回来的时候可以顺便帮我买午餐吗?

5. 爱到卡惨死 (ài diǒ khā tshám xì)

爱到卡惨死 (ài diǒ khā tshám xì) is a saying in Taiwanese/ Hakka. It means one is madly in love with somebody, even if they’re a jerk or they’re in an abusive relationship.

Nǎi bùyào zài ài diǒ khā tshám xìle! Xǐng xǐng ba, tā shìgè kǒngbù qíngrén!
妳不要再爱到卡惨死了! 醒醒吧,他是个恐怖情人!
Don’t be a fool, wake up girl! He’s a horror lover!
